Chasing the Lunar Eclipse

$999

She had a camera, and the evening was doing something extraordinary. The sun was pulling itself below the ridge — a ridge she had looked at all her life from the roads and meadows of Marin — and for a few minutes the sky turned the color of embers. Annie paused, and the shutter opened. What the lens recorded was a landscape in conversation with itself: the wild plants of the foreground leaning into the frame, the mountain settling into its cool blue silence, and the clouds above still lit from below, streaked with the last warmth of the day. It is a photograph that breathes — close enough to feel the evening chill, wide enough to feel the pull of the horizon. This is the kind of image Annie has always made: found beauty, not manufactured. A moment that most people drive past on the way home, transformed by her attentive eye into something you want to live with. Like looking through a peephole into a secret garden, as a friend once said — except here, the garden is the whole wide California sky.
